Hugo Chiarella

Hugo is currently playing Grantaire and understudying Thenardier in the West End production of Les Miserables at The Queens Theatre in London. A graduate of the Victorian College of Arts (VCA) Bachelor of Music Theatre, Hugo wrote the book and lyrics for the musical DreamSong which has been developed and performed through the VCA as well as the Carnegie 18 New Music Theatre Program at The Arts Centre Melbourne. As a performer he has toured Australia and New Zealand in the role of Mendel in Fiddler on The Roof with Topol. In 2008, he was invited to sing ‘God Save the Queen’ for England at the Rugby World Cup. Hugo was awarded Best Actor in a comedy at the Canberra Festival for one-act plays. On television, Hugo is the star of the channel Nine children’s series Magical Tales: Surprises, currently in its third season. In 2014, Hugo presented DreamSong at Theatre Works for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival directed by Dean Bryant. He was in the Australian tour of Les Miserables.
